About the Role

We have a new opportunity for a Permanent Delivery Manager - Bridges to join our Structural Maintenance scheme delivery team. This role sits within our Network Management Contract Southwest (NMC SW) and is based in Polmadie, Glasgow.

Our NMC SW account, working in partnership with Transport Scotland Southwest since August 2020, is responsible for:

  • Inspections
  • Cyclical maintenance
  • Asset management
  • Scheme delivery
  • Winter maintenance
  • Incident response

Our team provides first-response assistance, delivers engineering and operational services for over 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures, ensuring reliable journeys and high customer care.

The Delivery Manager - Bridges will lead the safe, efficient, and commercially successful delivery of trunk road bridge and structure projects across the South West Scotland NMC contract, overseeing an annual programme exceeding £40 million.

Key Shift Pattern

  • 40 hours per week: Mon–Fri
  • Opportunity to earn overtime through weekend site supervision and occasional nightshifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee delivery of bridge and structural improvement schemes, ensuring time, cost, and quality targets are met.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Assistant Delivery Managers, fostering a high-performance, safety-first culture.
  • Ensure robust planning, sequencing, and resource allocation across all projects.
  • Act as a senior leader in health, safety, and environmental (HSEQ) performance, promoting zero-harm visibility.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and fulfil Principal Contractor responsibilities.
  • Oversee Construction Phase Plans, risk assessments, method statements, permits, and associated documentation.
  • Conduct site inspections, safety audits, and follow-up on action closures.
  • Manage subcontractors and supply chain, ensuring safety, quality, cost, and programme compliance.
  • Maintain alignment with specifications, standards, and contract requirements through quality assurance.
  • Identify and manage risks, constraints, and opportunities at project and programme levels.
  • Support the commercial team in dispute avoidance and resolution.
  • Provide expert buildability input during design and selection phases.
  • Influence temporary works, traffic management, and construction phasing.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships with Transport Scotland, local authorities, and key partners.
  • Drive workforce engagement through briefings, toolbox talks, and behavioural safety initiatives.
  • Lead incident reporting, investigation, and lessons-learned processes.
  • Collaborate with HSEQ Advisors to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in senior construction/delivery leadership, particularly in highways or infrastructure.
  • Experience delivering major programmes on time and within budget.
  • Bridge or structural project management expertise.
  • Strong team leadership and supply chain management skills.
  • Leadership and people development capabilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Planning, programming, and commercial awareness.
  • Problem-solving, risk management, and safety-first accountability.
