The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Delivery Manager to join our Engineering Consulting business on a permanent contract.
The Role
As the Delivery Manager for Rail within the Consulting business, you will support the Delivery Director in leading the delivery of a portfolio of projects / major project, ensuring client obligations and profit targets are met and entire Consulting capability is deployed.
You will ensure the P&L, client delivery and development of further work opportunities through existing frameworks and contracts, gaining maximum values from frameworks where appropriate.
Responsibilities
Working in collaboration with Practices to develop solutions and resource projects and business development to ensure contribution towards the development of a future relevant pipeline of work. Key responsibilities include:
- Accountability for the delivery of a portfolio of projects/major project to budget, on time and with positive client satisfaction.
- Developing a robust strategy to ensure achievement of optimum margin aligned to or more than agreed targets. P&L responsibility for the contracts within their area. Accountable for achievement of revenue and margin targets as agreed by Amey Group.
- Ensuring optimal use of the entire range of Consulting capability.
- Ensuring and improving the delivery of service excellence across the projects maximising efficiency and effectiveness, actively sharing best practice across contracts, and seeking opportunities for profit improvement.
- Being commercially astute and ensures that all entitlements under the contract and through change are correctly administered by the portfolio and project delivery leads.
- Managing the day-to-day performance of the contract/s with regular site and office visits as appropriate.
- Establishing strong partnerships with Practice leads and assigned Business Development resource.
- Seeking out and identifying additional revenue opportunities, liaising with business development team to secure (framework farming).
- Day to day leadership for the resources assigned to the project or programmes.
- Forecasting resource needs for projects within their portfolio working closely with practice heads to enable the people assignment process.
- Managing the ongoing relationship with the client, with regular reviews of contract performance, and active management of issues driving a culture of customer centricity.
- Identifying and managing risks to the delivery, including developing contingency plans to mitigate potential issues.
- Managing the supply chain as appropriate.
- Complying to all defined Amey Governance requirements and manages contract performance in line with Amey standards, including systems, tools, processes, and risk management.
- Contributing as required to bidding activity.
- Responsibility for Mobilisation and Demobilisation of contracts as relevant and completed in line with the agreed budget allowance.
- Accountability for ensuring a strong health and safety culture aligned to Amey Zero Code which ensures safe processes, procedures, and behaviours as well as continuous improvement through best practice activities.

What You Will Bring To Us
- Natural collaborator who can bring people together for a common outcome.
- Strong project management capability.
- An analytical mind using data and insight to drive decision making.
- Commercially minded.
- Experience of running several large contracts or portfolios to time and budget.
- Experience managing a significant client, or multiple smaller customers.
- Demonstrable experience of ownership and management of a P&L.
- Experience of bid management including mobilisation and demobilisation.
- CDM and strong HSEQ understanding.
- Ability to plan and prioritise work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.
- Applies knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the organisation's goals.
- Ability to anticipate and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders.
- Degree qualified or equivalent experience, coupled with professional qualifications.
- MBA / Chartered Manager / Prince 2 / APM or equivalent.
