Project Delivery Lead – Future Materials Campus Infrastructure Programme
(Part-Time Telework, Reading)

Project Background: The Future Materials Campus
- Part of a UK Government initiative to renovate and expand AWE’s nuclear manufacturing and storage facilities.
- A multi-programme endeavour encompassing:
- Newbuilds of nuclear/non-nuclear facilities (e.g., production plants, security systems)
- Upgrades to legacy infrastructure and essential enabling works
- Nuclear material recovery capabilities.
Responsibilities
Your role focuses on portfolio-level improvements across three systems delivery areas to counter delivery risks and maximize efficiency:
Primary Objectives
- Strategic Review & Governance:
- Lead portfolcio-level project and technical reviews to assess status & opportunities for cost/schedule/risk optimization.
- Align with project objectives while identifying credible improvement and remediation plans for conflicting timelines.

Enablement & Transition Support:
- Uplift capabilities by pairing specialists with programme leads to address critical skill gaps in process, norms and compliance.
- Facilitate consistent methodologies across projects (e.g., single baseline for cost, schedule, risk) and enable:
- Shared Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and phase-gates
- Governance processes, KPIs, and dashboards

Scope & Value Engineering:
- Evaluate scope, phasing, value-engineering and contracting options to re-align with funding constraints without compromising key outcomes.
- Embed best-practice assessment methodologies and close-out handover processes.
Day-to-Day Execution

Technical Specialisation: Manage Process Plant & Equipment (design/_installation/commissioning), Facility Design (CS&A & M&E services), and Construction (build-out, demolition, security systems).
- Projects may include: Civil/Structural/Architectural work, safety systems, nuclear decontamination.

Stakeholder & Team Leadership:
- Foster trusted partnerships with Bechtel and client teams.
- Proactively identify and up-level skill gaps across GBU Functional teams.
- Champion an iteration-friendly culture: encourage adopting new methods and innovative solutions.

Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Versioncontrol://must-be: Proven track record in phase-gated projects (e.g., infrastructure, construction, nuclear).
- Nuclear/energy sector exposure desired (though not mandated).
- Comprehensive Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) training advocated: ability to demonstrate CDM accountability.
Key Competencies
- Decision-Making & Independence: Ability to analyse portfolcios and troubleshoot strategically.
- Stakeholder Management: Engage collaboratively with cross-functional teams (legal, procurement, security).
- Risk-Resilience: Anticipate and mitigate schematic design risks in programmes under tight governance.
