Delivery Suite Co-ordinator - Development Role INTERNAL

Midwife (Shift Coordinator) – Delivery Suite – Ysbyty Gwynedd

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR 18 MONTHS DUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE


About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Midwife to join our team on the Delivery Suite as a Shift Coordinator, based at Ysbyty Gwynedd. This autonomous practitioner will be responsible for:

  • Coordination of care within the Delivery Suite
  • Assessment, planning, and implementation of care for high and low-risk women across the antepartum, intrapartum, and occasionally postnatal periods
  • Providing clinical leadership to ensure the highest standards of client-centred care are upheld
  • Supervising, mentoring, and supporting learners while leading a team to deliver evidence-based practice
  • Ensuring all care aligns with Health Board policies and procedures, including maintaining associated records
  • Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision, practice, and teaching to improve standards of care through efficient resource management

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Staff Coordination & Leadership

  • Supervise, allocate, and coordinate staff with consideration of skill mix and ability
  • Supervise and advise medical staff, including conducting appraisals as required
  • Foster effective inter-disciplinary communication to create a positive working environment
  • Recognise, communicate, and reward team achievements and individual contributions
  • Identify and address performance issues while ensuring fairness

Ward & Patient Care Management

  • Assume unit bleep holder duties on a rotating basis for maternity and gynaecology services
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant ward environment in accordance with Health & Safety Policy
  • Ensure appropriate skill mix in the ward, including Labour Ward rota management

Staff Welfare & Conflict Resolution

  • Act as a professional well-being resource for assigned staff
  • Diffuse challenging behaviour while acting as a role model for resolving sensitive situations
  • Report all incidents and accidents via the Trust’s risk management systems

Resource & Policy Compliance

  • Take responsibility for resource management, addressing issues affecting learning, development, and clinical care

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of Level 2 study
  • Completed ALSO course (if not already completed)

Desirable:

  • Completed mentorship training
  • Evidence of Level 3 study
  • Additional ALSO course completion

Experience

Essential:

  • Sufficient post-registration experience
  • Broad midwifery practice experience, with desire to work in a Delivery Suite

Desirable:

  • Recent Delivery Suite experience
  • Experience across all midwifery areas

Skills & Competencies

Essential:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Assertiveness in decision-making
  • People management and communication skills
  • Strong time management abilities
  • Advanced clinical skills in intrapartum care
  • Proven ability to shift-coordinate with confidence and competence

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Health Board policies (e.g., Concerns Policy, Risk Management)
  • Strong IT skills
  • Experience in resource and budget management
  • Clinical audit experience
  • Venepuncture and cannulation skills

Note: The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, but applicants knowledgable in Welsh or English are equally welcome. Post applications in either language are treated equally.
