The Role
We are looking for an experienced Delphi Developer to join a dynamic technology team supporting one of the UK's leading retail organisations. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting critical business applications built using Delphi technology. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions that support key business operations and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using Delphi.
- Analyse business requirements and translate them into scalable, efficient technical solutions.
- Build clean, reusable, and well-documented code in line with development best practices.
- Provide production support and proactively investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues.
- Collaborate with business analysts, product owners, testers, and infrastructure teams to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
- Conduct root cause analysis for incidents and implement preventive solutions to improve system stability.
- Perform code reviews and contribute to coding standards, development processes, and quality improvements.
- Optimise application performance, reliability, and security through continuous enhancement initiatives.
- Support system integrations and ensure seamless data exchange across business-critical platforms.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, technical discussions, and continuous improvement activities.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles, and support procedures.

Your Profile
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience developing applications using Delphi (Object Pascal).
- Solid understanding of software design principles, object-oriented programming concepts, and application architecture.
- Experience in developing, maintaining, and supporting business-critical enterprise applications.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience working with relational databases and writing efficient SQL queries.
- Knowledge of application performance tuning, optimisation, and production support activities.
- Familiarity with source code management tools and version control best practices.
- Ability to work effectively within Agile or iterative development environments.
- Strong stakeholder communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business-friendly language.
- Proven ability to manage priorities, work independently, and deliver high-quality solutions within deadlines.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience within the Retail, People (HR), Payroll, or Workforce Management domains.
- Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies including Scrum and Kanban.
- Experience using JIRA, Confluence, or similar work management and collaboration tools.
- Knowledge of API integrations, web services, and modern application connectivity frameworks.
- Exposure to cloud-based technologies and modernisation initiatives.
- Experience supporting legacy application estates and participating in technology transformation projects.
- Understanding of CI/CD practices and automated deployment processes.
- Experience working within large-scale enterprise environments with multiple business stakeholders.
