Fixed Term Contract / Secondment Opportunity – Dementia Support Worker
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) 10-Month Contract / 17 Hours Per Week
We are seeking a dedicated and person-centered professional who enjoys working with individuals living with dementia and values supportive, best-practice care. A secondment opportunity may also be available for internal candidates—please discuss this with your line manager in advance.
About the Role
The Dementia Support Service is a respected, collaborative team consisting of support workers, nurses, and occupational therapists. Our mission is to optimise inpatient care for dementia patients and ensure positive outcomes at discharge. You’ll play a key role by:
- Engaging patients in meaningful activities tailored to their needs and interests
- Reducing distress and decompensation through person-centred adjustments
- Supporting patients in maintaining cognitive function and independence
- Acting as an advocate and liaising with families and carers to build personal profiles and connect them with community support services

Key responsibilities include:
Core Responsibilities
- Daily ward rounds across multiple hospital units, working both independently (with supervision) and part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Completing personal patient profiles via family/carer consultations
- Designing and facilitating therapeutic activities that align with each patient’s (past interests, memories, and preferences)
- Juggling fluid workloads with flexibility, organisation, and creativity—no two days will be the same
- Fostering supportive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
