Depot Manager – Portsmouth
Lead. Inspire. Deliver.
Competitive Salary + Bonus + Company Car/Car Allowance + Excellent Benefits
This isn't a role for someone who prefers to manage from behind a desk. We're looking for a high-energy, commercially astute leader who isn't afraid to roll their sleeves up, lead from the front and set the standard every single day. You'll take full ownership of a thriving Portsmouth depot, managing a £7 million P&L and leading a team of 22 talented people. You'll have the freedom to make decisions, drive performance and build a culture where accountability, teamwork and exceptional customer service are non-negotiable. If you're the type of person who walks the depot floor before sitting behind a laptop, enjoys solving problems, challenges underperformance and motivates people through your actions rather than your words, we'd love to hear from you.
The Opportunity
This is a genuine leadership role where you'll influence every aspect of the operation. You'll be responsible for:
- Full ownership of the depot's £7m P&L and overall business performance.
- Leading, developing and inspiring a team of 22 across operations, engineering, transport, administration and sales.
- Creating a high-performance culture built around accountability, customer service and continuous improvement.
- Driving revenue growth while maintaining tight control of costs and profitability.
- Maximising fleet utilisation and operational efficiency.
- Building lasting relationships with customers and ensuring an exceptional service experience.
- Championing health, safety and compliance across the depot.
- Coaching individuals, developing talent and identifying future leaders.
- Working closely with senior leadership to deliver strategic objectives and continued business growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
