Service Manager – Plant Hire
£60,000
St Albans / Watford
We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established, plant hire business with a strong reputation across highways, energy, utilities, and civils—for a Service Manager to lead one of their workshop operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role at the heart of the depot: keeping the hire fleet safe, compliant, and available, and building a workshop team that takes real pride in getting it right first time.
What you'll be doing:
- Overseeing service red pen checks on hire equipment
- Managing major and minor repairs to maximise fleet availability
- Leading and developing the workshop team, including fitter recruitment
- Owning workshop health & safety and yard compliance
- Keeping statutory training records up to date
- Running toolbox talks and regular team communications
- Analysing weekly purchase order spend to control costs and flag overspend

What we're looking for:
- NVQ Level 3 Plant qualified
- Proven experience in a management role, ideally in plant hire or a related workshop environment
- Confident with Microsoft Excel for reporting and cost analysis
- Organised, deadline-driven, with a genuine health & safety mindset
- A team player who can motivate and get the best from workshop staff
