Deputy Centre Manager – Cats Protection (Centre Team)

Location: St Helens, Merseyside

Work Pattern: 35 hours per week (including weekends and bank holidays)

Salary: Up to £31,918.33 per year

Contract: Permanent

⚠️ Note: This role requires an enhanced DBS check (including the Children's Barred List).


About the Role

The UK’s largest cat welfare charity brings together passionate employees, volunteers, and supporters to enhance the lives of millions of cats and their human caregivers. Will you be our next Deputy Centre Manager and join us in improving lives across the national network of adoption centres?


Responsibilities of the Deputy Centre Manager

  • Collaborate with the Centre Manager to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained and to provide effective cover during their absence
  • Oversee the wellbeing of all cats in care, ensuring administrative and maintenance procedures align with the charity’s vision
  • Work with the Cat Care Team to plan and direct work in coordination with the Centre Manager
  • Manage the homing process, including:
    • Accepting cats and kittens
    • Completing all necessary paperwork
    • Ensuring minimum veterinary standards are met by qualified personnel
  • Uphold high standards of care, welfare, and operational efficiency

Services include cross fostering, rehoming, and supporting stray cats waiting for adoption.


Person Specification

We are seeking a driven individual with the following qualities and experience:

Essential

  • Supervisor/team leader experience, ideally within animal welfare or a related environment
  • Excellent communication skills—interpersonal and organisational (salient in a fast-paced setting!)
  • Knowledge of feline infectious diseases and best-practice disease prevention/control
  • Full UK manual driving licence (occasionally required to drive centre vans)
  • Confidence and initiative to thrive under pressure and deliver quality care
  • Ability to enunciate the charity’s values and foster a positive, proactive work culture

Preferred

  • Experience in pet healthcare settings or animal homelessness support
