About the Role
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an exceptional Deputy Chief Financial Officer to provide senior financial leadership across one of the largest NHS providers in the region.
Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, you will lead the day-to-day operation of the Finance Directorate and play a central role in shaping and delivering the Trust’s financial strategy. This is a pivotal role, with responsibility for financial planning, income and contracting, performance management, transformation, CIP delivery, procurement, costing, financial intelligence and statutory reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior leadership for the Finance Directorate, supporting the Chief Financial Officer in setting and delivering the Trust’s financial strategy.
- Lead the day-to-day operation of key finance functions, including financial planning, income and contracting, performance management, procurement, costing, financial intelligence, statutory reporting, and PMO/CIP delivery.
- Work closely with clinical, operational and system partners to strengthen financial grip, support effective decision-making and ensure resources are used well for the benefit of patients.
- Lead the development of annual budgets, medium-term financial plans, forecasting, recovery actions and business cases, while ensuring robust governance, assurance, audit compliance and delivery of statutory financial requirements.
- Lead and develop senior finance teams, building strong relationships across the Trust and wider NHS system.
- Represent the Trust externally and deputise for the Chief Financial Officer as required.

Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for a fully qualified CCAB accountant with significant senior finance leadership experience in a large, complex organisation, ideally within the NHS or wider public sector. You will bring strong technical expertise, commercial judgement and the ability to lead through influence across clinical, operational and system partners.
