I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

London Treasury’s strategy for future growth centres around diversifying its client base beyond the GLA Group across its four service lines. LTLF represents the primary opportunity to achieve this, with local authorities and mayoral or combined authorities as primary target audience to join the fund.

About the Role

The Deputy Director, Business Development will drive growth by defining and leading the strategy to engage with the core target market of local authorities across London and the UK. The initial priority is to expand the number of partners in LTLF; thereby not only diversifying the client base but also growing the assets under management (AUM). Over time, the postholder will set the strategy to secure opportunities for growth across all four of London Treasury’s service lines.

Alongside the CEO and the Deputy Director, LTLF, they will lead the management of key stakeholder relationships to maintain engagement and ensure retention of LTLF’s current and future partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the business development strategy to achieve growth and diversification of LTLF Partners beyond the GLA Group
  • Oversee the activities of the Marketing team to ensure they align with the broader business development strategy
  • Represent London Treasury across industry events and lead outreach activities to engage the target market
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Directors across all service lines to identify opportunities to increase London Treasury’s profile, create connections with local authorities and generate growth
  • In collaboration with the investment team, develop a fined-tuned proposition to address the pain points that local authorities face and enable them to overcome barriers to adoption of the LTLF proposition
  • Oversee discussions and process with each potential new partner to the LTLF from beginning to end ensuring momentum is maintained during the due diligence and the onboarding process. Maintain engagement with key decision makers at all times.
  • Develop a Customer Relationship Management System to support the building of relationships with potential targets and maintain momentum. Establish relationships with decision makers in each target local authority, liaising with Deputy Directors and Senior Associates across the business to ensure a joined-up approach.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships and engagement with existing partners
