DMU is an ambitious, values-led institution with a growing international footprint spanning Leicester, London, Dubai, Kazakhstan and Cambodia, alongside more than 9,000 students studying for a DMU degree through international partnerships worldwide. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The successful candidate will build a proactive communications and external relations strategy that supports DMU's future ambitions and positions the university as a recognised leader in employability, social mobility, international education and student outcomes. They will play a central role in shaping institutional narrative, strengthening thought leadership and building influence regionally, nationally and internationally.
The role leads a multidisciplinary team spanning Engagement Communications, Press and PR, Alumni and Development, together with associated specialist teams, with responsibility for approximately 20 colleagues across the wider function.
DMU is particularly interested in fresh perspectives from outside Higher Education and welcomes applications from senior communications, corporate affairs, external relations, public affairs and reputation leaders from a broad range of sectors. The university is seeking an individual with exceptional stakeholder management skills, experience of leading reputational and crisis communications, and a track record of influencing at executive and board level.
This is a chance to shape the reputation of an institution whose external profile has yet to fully reflect its achievements. DMU is a Top 20 UK university in the WhatUni Student Choice Awards, ranked among the top 7% of universities globally, recognised as the UK's Sustainability Institution of the Year and one of the world's leading universities for international student satisfaction.
