Deputy Director Estates (Facilities Management) – Royal Holloway, University of London
Salary: £71,400 per annum – including London Allowance This is the expected starting salary. Appointment at a higher point may be made for those demonstrating exceptional skills and experience.
Hours: 35 per week
About the Role
The Estates department at Royal Holloway, University of London is advancing the University’s historic estate to create a 21st-century campus that meets the changing needs of students, staff, and visitors.
The Deputy Director Estates (Facilities Management, FM) is a key strategic role within the restructured department, reporting to the Estates Director. The postholder will:
- Manage Facilities Management resources within the Estates Department.
- Work closely with Senior and Executive Teams across the University.
- Build cross-campus relationships with academic and professional stakeholders, both internally and externally, to align estates strategy with university priorities.

This position demands a proven record in Senior Facilities Management/Maintenance within Higher Education (HEI) or similar organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the facilities operations supporting the academic and professional mission of the institution.
- Oversee governance, compliance, and delivery of Estates services.
- Foster collaborative working with diverse stakeholders at all organisational levels.
- Act as a strategic link between FM resources and wider university objectives.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a Senior Facilities Management or equivalent position within Higher Education or similar scale public/professional services organisations.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record supporting FM departments.
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and emotional intelligence to navigate complex cross-disciplinary relationships.
- Experience in post-pandemic workplace transformation is welcome (not essential).
