Deputy Director
HMP Millsike | Circa £95,000 + Comprehensive Benefits Package

As Deputy Director at HMP Millsike, you will be at the forefront of one of the UK's most ambitious custodial environments, helping to create a safe, secure and rehabilitative prison where people can transform their lives and staff can thrive.
We are seeking an exceptional operational leader who combines strategic thinking with visible leadership and who is passionate about delivering excellence in complex, highly regulated environments.
Working alongside the Prison Director and Senior Leadership Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the culture, performance and future direction of the establishment.

The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across key areas of the prison, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality services.
You Will
- Provide inspiring leadership across a large and diverse workforce.
- Drive operational performance whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety and security.
- Lead the development and implementation of strategies that improve outcomes for prisoners, staff and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with contractual, legislative and Prison Service requirements.
- Foster a culture of inclusion, accountability and professional development.
- Manage significant budgets and resources with commercial awareness and sound judgement.
- Provide senior oversight and leadership of complex employee relations matters, ensuring fair, consistent and legally compliant handling of disciplinary, grievance, capability and attendance processes, including chairing formal hearings where required.
- Provide visible leadership during critical incidents and operational challenges.

About You
You are an experienced senior leader who thrives in complex operational environments and has a track record of delivering results through others.
Essential
- Significant leadership experience within a custodial, detention, justice, defence or similarly secure environment.
- Experience operating at Head of Function, Deputy Governor/Director or equivalent senior leadership level.
- Silver Commander qualification.
- Experience acting as Duty Governor/Director.
- Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams through change and improvement.
- Extensive experience managing complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, conduct, capability and attendance cases, with experience chairing formal hearings and delivering robust, fair and legally compliant outcomes.
- Strong financial, operational and people leadership experience.
Desirable
- Commercial and contract management experience.
- Level 7 qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience of leading large-scale organisational change programmes.
