Deputy Director of Finance
The NHS – University Hospital of North Durham NHS Trust
In an increasingly complex and scrutinised NHS financial environment, this role plays a critical part in ensuring financial integrity and compliance, working closely with the Director of Operational Finance and Director of Strategic Finance.
About the Role
The Deputy Director of Finance will lead and support the Financial Services team across a broad range of functions, including:
- Financial accounting and internal controls
- Capital expenditure management
- Treasury operations
- Purchase and sales ledger processes
The key focus of the role revolves around:
- Maintaining financial integrity and supporting robust financial processes
- Driving continuous improvement by fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and professional curiosity
- Providing compassionate and inclusive leadership to deliver high-performing services that align with the Trust’s strategic and operational objectives
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver expert financial accounting support, ensuring high-quality services that comply with professional standards and NHS requirements
- Lead statutory financial duties, including preparation of the Annual Consolidated Accounts and collaboration with external auditors
- Ensure compliance while developing and improving procedures, controls, and financial planning across the Financial Services team
- Provide robust reporting and forecasting, addressing cash flow, capital expenditures, and working capital proactively
- Lead and develop teams with strong stakeholder and partnership relationships
- Deputise for the Director of Operational Finance as needed
