Job Description

The Environment Agency is looking for a Deputy Director People & Inclusion to join them and play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the culture, capability and inclusivity of the Environment Agency.

This role will lead the delivery of core people services across the Environment Agency, covering a range of bulk activities (e.g. resourcing) and specialist areas (e.g. diversity and inclusion). The role will act as the main point of contact and relationship manager with Defra’s HR Service provision, providing escalation, oversight and service management on all HR-delivered services throughout the year. The postholder will lead the team to not only deliver significant BAU activity in-year (e.g. pay award negotiations, large-scale recruitment campaigns, delivery of learning and capability interventions, etc.) but also continuously improve the service offering, finding new ways to reduce the cost and the management requirement. The role will ensure the delivery of the People Strategy, and alignment with the EA2030 objectives.

The Team

This role will lead around 80 staff in the delivery of their remit across the Environment Agency. People & Inclusion is part of the People & Assurance department. The postholder will directly line manage around six senior managers and oversee the direction and outcome of their work with their teams. In addition, this role will play a key role in engaging with Defra HR on their service provision into the Environment Agency.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
