Deputy Editor – Advanced Portfolio (Medical Editor)

About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic Deputy Editor to join Wiley's Advanced team, supporting the Editor-in-Chief of an Advanced cross-disciplinary medicine title. The role involves developing and managing manuscripts within your expertise, while also championing the wider Advanced portfolio.

The ideal candidate is a passionate Advanced portfolio ambassador with a broad network in medical research, able to drive impactful strategic initiatives that strengthen the relationship between groundbreaking research communities, publication practices, and global knowledge accessibility.

You’ll actively engage in peer review processes and editorial decision-making for manuscripts—ensuring excellence and the highest ethical standards across the publishing lifecycle.


What You Will Achieve

Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to:

  • Grow Wiley’s Advanced Portfolio in Medicine globally Develop cross-disciplinary content strategies that expand the impact of advanced medical research.
  • Commission high-quality research Identify critical topics, engage leading authorities, and build long-term author relationships.
  • Oversee peer review and manuscript handling Ensure manuscripts meet the highest editorial standards, balancing fairness, transparency, and timeliness.
  • Launch and grow Springer Advantage spin-off titles Condense insights from existing titles and drive new research community initiatives.
  • Align content strategies with Wiley’s editorial teams Advise on expanding out-of-scope submissions to related Advanced titles and medical clusters.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams Support brand-enhancing initiatives—workshops, publications, or events that place Wiley at the forefront of medical innovation.
  • Identify opportunities for Wiley product offerings Curate and champion ideas for potential new medical публикувани серия.

What We Look For

Professional Background

✔ PhD in any medical specialty (Post-doctoral and clinical experience preferred) ✔ Strong expertise in medical research fields—broad interdisciplinary experience is anticipated.

Strategic and Editorial Experience

✔ Proven commissioning track record:

  • Prioritising topics based on market demand
  • Securing high-impact research collaborations
  • Identifying authors, agreeing timelines, and advancing manuscripts to submission ✔ Manuscript handling expertise (pre-screening, peer review, decision-making, appeals integrity). ✔ Proven ability to evolve best practices across publishing ethics and global standards.

Leadership & Networking

✔ Strong global network in medical research, with a portfolio of high-impact talents. ✔ Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and convert strategic visions into tangible campaigns. ✔ Personal commitment to high professional integrity and ethical standards.

Soft Skills

✔ Exceptional communication and relationship-building, with authors, colleagues, and stakeholders. ✔ Willing to travel internationally regularly—commitment to global engagement is critical.
