Come and join us as a Deputy Engineering Manager at our Ash Grove garage in Hackney working for a sustainable, diverse and community-focused employer who puts its people at the heart of its business, whilst delivering contracted bus services on behalf of Transport for London.
Keeping London’s people moving and the safety and support of our people is paramount and our vision is to help people lead more sustainable lives, harnessing new and greener technology, whilst protecting our people and customers.
Would you love to be part of a professional engineering management team that maintains and repairs a modern and varied fleet of vehicles? If so, we are looking for a Deputy Engineering Manager to assist the Engineering Manager in the day to day management of the engineering function at our Ash Grove garage in east London.
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our fleet of buses are maintained to the standard required by the Company, TfL and the DVSA.
Your role as deputy engineering manager is not just about achieving maximum vehicle availability and continually improving standards, you will also have a direct influence on Health & Safety compliance/culture, fatigue management and employee wellbeing.
You should have a thorough understanding of mechanical engineering and vehicle maintenance procedures for large vehicles, preferably PCVs, as well as knowledge of electrical engineering, bodywork construction and basic stores procedures.
The post holder should have the ability to gain a Transport CPC, if requested to do so.
The ability to plan, prioritise, analyse and make decisions is also essential as well as an up-to-date understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
Ash Grove garage operates a varied range of double deck and single deck buses and will shortly have a fleet of electric vehicles.
You’ve probably seen some of our buses driving around east London and the City, transporting our fantastic customers around the area. Those customers rely on our services to get them to work, to the high street, to hospitals, to days away and nights out – and as part of our engineering management team you’ll be key to making sure our vehicles are in tip top condition to do just that.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
