Deputy General Manager
Location: Canopy by Hilton London City, 11-15 Minories, London, EC3N 1BJ
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Deputy General Manager to join Canopy by Hilton London City in a dynamic and leadership-focused role.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for:
- The overall performance of the hotel
- Oversight of Rooms, Food & Beverage, Kitchen, Maintenance, Health & Safety, and Security operations
- Full P&L responsibility
- Acting as the Deputy General Manager with crisis managementfallibilities included
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day operations of the hotel, collaboratively aligning with the General Manager and Executive Committee to achieve exceptional performance.
- Drive business performance through strategic decision-making, financial oversight, and operational excellence.
- Maintain hotel profitability, covering budgets, forecasting, P&L performance, and commercial initiatives.
- Analyse market trends and strategically implement opportunities to grow revenue, reduce costs, and enhance guest satisfaction.
- Oversee key operational departments, ensuring alignment with brand standards: Rooms, Food & Beverage, Kitchen, Maintenance, Security, and Health & Safety.
- Ensure compliance with brand standards, quality standards, and all statutory requirements, including Martyn’s Law.
- Champion guest satisfaction through delivering exceptional guest experiences and continuous service improvements.
- Lead and support Heads of Department, reinforcing accountability, fostering collaboration, and driving team development.
- Drive team engagement, succession planning, and people-focused initiatives to strengthen the hotel team.
- Promote brand ambassadorship, innovation, creativity, and community engagement.
- Assist the General Manager with owner relations, corporate partnerships, and strategic business planning.
- Deputise for the General Manager as needed, including crisis management responsibilities.
- Oversee the maintenance of hotel assets, planning and auditing maintenance processes and compliance.
- Monitor KPIs across guest experience, quality, health & safety, and food safety.
- Maintain a focus on service recovery, guest loyalty, and sustaining Hilton Honors program success.

About The Candidate
Leadership & Experience
We are looking for a qualified Deputy General Manager with at least 2 years’ experience in an upscale hospitality market, ideally in a comparable role.
- Hilton experience is desirable
Key Competencies
The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise across the following areas:
- Comprehensive understanding of fire safety, security protocols, and Martyn’s Law requirements
- Health & Safety portfolio: knowledge of legislation, compliance, and best practices
- HR management and policies, including employee relations and relevant KPIs
- Familiarity with global hotel brand operations and their standards
- Understanding of Hilton’s systems while being aware of Hilton’s brand-specific requirements
- Familiarity with Canopy by Hilton standards, hospitality concepts, and lifestyle elements is advantageous
- Corporate governance and operational enforcement frameworks
- Awareness of ESG (Environmental, Social, & Governance) concepts and sustainability trends in hospitality
- Commercial mindset that balances guest experience, team engagement, and financial performance
Core Skills
- Strong business acumen, with a comfortable grasp of hotel finances, P&L management, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
