Job Overview

The Sizewell C Jobs Service supports local candidates to secure long-term roles within this high-profile infrastructure project. This hands-on, on-site opportunity offers a £75,000 per annum salary and the chance to manage marine safety operations in a dynamic environment.

Location & Terms

  • Travel required: Between Orwell Logistics Park (Ipswich) and Leiston, Suffolk
  • Working pattern: 4 to 5 days per week
  • Salary: £75,000 per annum
  • Benefits:

About the Role

As Deputy Harbour Master, you will ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the Statutory Harbour Authority for Sizewell C.

  • Support the Marine Safety Management System (MSMS)
  • Oversee daily marine operations, vessel movements & contractor activities
  • Manage navigational safety and compliance with:
    • Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC)
    • Relevant UK maritime legislation Perfect for those thriving in a fast-paced, high-profile setting.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead continuous improvement of the MSMS
  • Oversee compliance monitoring and maintain regulatory standards
  • Coordinate marine activities, ensuring smooth vessel and contractor workflows
  • Manage emergency response planning for incidents and spills
  • Act as part of the emergency response team in marine/pollution events
  • Deputise for the Harbour Master when required
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships with regulators, contractors, and local authorities

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Harbour Master or Deputy Harbour Master
  • In-depth knowledge of UK maritime legislation, PMSC and harbour regulations
  • Background in marine operations or port/harbour management
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Diploma for Harbour Masters (or equivalent qualification)

  • UK Harbour Master Certificate (or commitment to pursuing)
  • Oil Spill Response 4P qualification
  • IOSH Managing Safely or other relevant safety management training
