Deputy Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Manager to play a vital role in providing support within our Pathfinder Service.

Position: Deputy Manager (Mid Sussex Footprint)
Location: Mid Sussex with some remote working
Salary: £32,869 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 09:00 – 17:00)
Contract: Permanent
Closing Date: Friday 31st July 2026
Interview Date: TBC

About:

As a Deputy Manager, you will be working for a people-led organisation whose mission and values is to inspire change across Sussex.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Pathfinder Service. BHT Sussex is the lead provider of mental health support across West Sussex https://www.pathfinderwestsussex.org.uk, working closely with community partners, primary care and NHS mental health services.

You will be joining a passionate team who work together to support individuals with mental health needs across West Sussex.

The role of the Deputy Manager is to assist the Operational Manager in the day-to-day management of the Pathfinder Service. This exciting role involves encouraging and empowering Mental Health Recovery Workers to develop their skills and experience, whilst supporting their wellbeing.

Responsibilities will include caseload coordination, staff support and line management and developing/maintaining effective working relationships with external and partner organisations. The Deputy Manager will also take responsibility for specific projects in agreement with the Operational Manager, including creatively developing the service to support the wider community.

You will be committed to delivering high quality preventative mental health interventions and will have experience of working with vulnerable people using person centred and empowering approaches. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential as a Deputy Manager along with the enthusiasm to support and promote staff wellbeing and work in partnership with health and social care organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To manage and support the wellbeing and work of the Pathfinder service staff including supervision and appraisal in agreement with the Operational Manager.
  • To assist the Operational Manager with developing and encouraging an empowering and person-centred approach in all aspects of service delivery.
  • To assist in ensuring that all client records and care plans are completed and stored using BHT Sussex systems.
  • To work closely with the Operational Manager and assist creative development of the service.
  • To work proactively and collaboratively with internal colleagues and external organisations.

Person Specification:

To be successful in the role of Deputy Manager you will need to have great communication skills and be committed to the values of BHT Sussex. Some of the key skills and experience you will need to bring with you include:

  • Experience of managing staff individually and as a team.
  • Experience of working in mental health, social care, or community development services.
  • Experience of establishing, developing, and maintaining effective working relationships with voluntary and statutory organisations.
  • Experience of providing effective line management and team supervision and support.
  • Understanding and knowledge of tools, techniques, and interventions to support individuals on their mental health recovery based on their own goals and aspirations.
