Deputy Manager
Deputy Manager – Join Our Growing Business

About the Role
As Deputy Manager, you’ll collaborate closely with the Store Manager to:
- Maximise profit through strategic performance reviews and action-driven improvements
- Lead a high-performing team
- Deliver a seamless, customer-focused operation
- Ensure the store thrives in all aspects of sales, operations, and service
Key Responsibilities
Maximise Profit
- Play an active role in weekly reviews of sales, operations, and digital performance to:
- Identify priorities and guideright actions
- Strengthen availability and cost controls with robust processes
- Cultivate a "sell a £, save a £" mindset to boost sales and profit
- Adhere to and exceed all agreed KPIs to drive consistent results
Engage, Develop & Retain Great People
- Support the Store Manager in Talking Shop – ensuring effective communication and representation
- Enhance team engagement by:
- Leading with open communication, appreciation, and respect
- Creating an inclusive culture where every team member can thrive
- Proactively develop talent through:
- On-the-job coaching
- Internal resources and external development opportunities
- Manage performance effectively with structured processes and continuous conversations

Doing The Right Processes And Doing Them Right
- Perform daily store walks, focusing on the customer experience and addressing areas for improvement
- Set the standard for service – both in-store and at the doorstep – ensuring it’s the best place to shop
- Uphold all cash handling and security policies, embedding them fully in the team’s operations
- Champion the One Best Way digital service excellence, empowering the team to implement best practices
- Maintain legal compliance across all areas to mitigate business risks
- Ensure strict adherence to health and safety policies, protecting teams and customers
Leadership
- Lead by example: Challenge the team to perform and deliver exceptional service
- Be approachable, respectful, and customer-centred – with colleagues and shoppers alike
- Foster a culture of teamwork, efficiency, and waste reduction
- Showcare for the business and its people
- Step in seamlessly for the Store Manager when absent, taking full responsibility for operations, teams, and customers
- Communicate effectively:
- Hold regular discussions and actively listen to understand
- Plan ahead by setting priorities and tackling key tasks efficiently
- Empower the team:
- Set the right pace through hands-on involvement
- Solve challenges with decisive leadership
- Ask insightful questions to drive performance and personal growth
- Delegateto colleagues at the right time for maximum impact
- Motivate the team to sustain high operational standards

Required Skills & Experience
- Proven success in a retail management role
- Leadership and team management experience, with a track record of driving engagement and performance
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage all team members
- Costomised to a fast-paced environment, with strong ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Sharp customer focus and a passion for delivering outstanding service
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure
- Flexibility to assist across multiple stores as needed
