Children's Residential Deputy Manager Location: Nelson Salary: £40,777 - £46,142 per annum, Permanent, Full Time (37 hours per week, Pro Rata)
About the Role
Lancashire County Council is excited to introduce Deputy Manager roles within the Residential Children’s Services as part of our "Where Our Children Live" programme. This initiative focuses on fostering safe, supportive homes for vulnerable children in Lancashire, aligning with our broader strategy to modernise residential care.
These roles provide an excellent career progression opportunity for experienced Assistant Managers, offering a balance of leadership, supervision, and hands-on management within diverse children’s homes, including:
- Small children’s homes
- A specialist home for children with complex mental health needs
- Intensive support hubs aiming to prevent children from entering care
As a Deputy Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Organising operational and care delivery in collaboration with the Home Manager
- Overseeing individual care plans and health/educational outcomes
- Engaging in regular multi-agency meetings and attending child reviews
- Supporting staff training and development
- Contributing to wider service improvements and initiatives across Children’s Residential Services

Responsibilities
Your role will encompass:

Leadership & Management
- Supervising and guiding Senior Residential Childcare Workers and Residential Childcare Workers
- Leading operational aspects of the home to ensure smooth, efficient delivery
- Developing and implementing care policies and procedures

Care Coordination
- Developing and reviewing individual care plans with children and young people
- Monitoring progress in education, health, and wellbeing
- Coordinating with external professionals (e.g., social workers, teachers, healthcare services)

Collaboration & Development
- Participating in multi-agency reviews and contributing to strategic goals for the service
- Leading on service improvements and training initiatives
- Supporting staff retention and development within the home

Representation
- Acting as part of the management team across Children’s Residential Services
- Representing residential care values at team forums, policy meetings, and community engagement
Requirements
To apply, you must meet the following essential criteria:
- Demonstrable passion for working with children and a commitment to their wellbeing
- A Level 4 qualification or higher—either:
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 or 4 in Leadership & Management (Health & Social Care)
- Equivalent qualifications (such as a degree in Social Work or related field)
- At least 3 years’ experience in residential children’s and young people’s services or comparable care setting
- Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle (full-time requirement for this role, note: we may consider candidates with disabilities)
- Essential car user with business insurance
