Children's Residential Deputy Manager – Skelmersdale
Salary: £40,777 – £46,142 per annum (Permanent, Full-Time, 37 hours per week, Pro Rata) Location: Skelmersdale, Lancashire **Note: This role is not open to international sponsorship
About the Role
Lancashire County Council is pleased to introduce new Deputy Manager roles within their Children’s Residential Services, as part of the "Where Our Children Live" programme.
This initiative aims to create safe, supportive residential homes for Lancashire children while modernising and expanding care services across the county.
Deputy Managers will provide leadership, supervision and strategic oversight to teams of Senior Residential Childcare Workers and Residential Childcare Workers. Core working hours are Monday to Friday, between 7am and 7pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer direct support, supervision and pastoral care to children and young people living in residential settings.
- Work closely with Home Managers to ensure efficient day-to-day operations across homes including:
- Developing, reviewing and implementing individual care plans.
- Monitoring health and educational progress.
- Maintaining strong relationships with external professionals and agencies.
- Actively participate in reviews, multi-agency meetings and wider service development initiatives.
- Support the training and professional growth of the care team.
- Drive action towards achieving five key outcomes for vulnerable children:
- Safety and resilience from harm.
- Embedded academic and career success.
- Healthy lifestyles and support for others.
- Meaningful voice and choice in their care.
- Positive integration into Lancashire communities.

Requirements
Essential Criteria
- A deep passion for working with children and young people, with a commitment to their safety and well-being.
- QCF 4 or NVQ Level 3/4 in Leadership & Management (Health & Social Care) or equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Residential Children and Young People’s Services (or equivalent experience).
- A valid UK driving license.
- Ability to provide and insure your own vehicle for duty use (disability exemptions considered on an individual basis).
