You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you. The Deputy Service Line Director will play a key leadership role in supporting the delivery and growth of WSP’s Low Carbon Service Line, which includes the Thermal Power and Gas & Hydrogen business lines. With core activities spanning OCGT and CCGT, CCUS, hydrogen, and gas transmission and distribution, the business currently comprises around 100 staff, generating approximately £10M in Net Revenue with an operating margin in excess of 30%. Working closely with the Service Line Director, you will help shape the future direction of the business by driving growth in existing markets and supporting expansion into detailed design and other molecule-based energy transition areas such as power station upgrades, biomethane, and sustainable fuels. The role will focus on growing the Thermal Power business line. Given the breadth of the portfolio and complexity of framework pricing and competitive bidding, the role demands strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines and geographies. A little more about your role... Support the Service Line Director in delivering the budget, growth, and profitability targets for the Energy Transition service line. Work with Strategic Growth Leads and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define strategic priorities, engage clients, and champion WSP’s Energy Transition offering. Deputise for the Service Line Director as required, ensuring effective leadership, governance, and delivery continuity. Contribute to the development and execution of pricing strategies and competitive bids for major frameworks and tenders. Lead selected key client accounts (typically 1–2) and strategic pursuits, driving client satisfaction and repeat business. Proactively collaborate with the wider WSP business to promote cross-sector growth within the UK and internationally. Support initiatives aimed at improving productivity, developing commercial awareness, and fostering a high-performance culture. Mentor team members, supporting their professional growth and business development skills. Promote a culture of health, safety, environment, quality, and wellbeing (HSEQ&W) excellence. Actively contribute to WSP’s thought leadership, market insight, and innovation agenda in the energy transition space. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate... Demonstrable experience supporting or leading growth in energy or infrastructure businesses. Experience delivering engineering services to the Thermal Power sector is essential. Proven ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams across complex projects. Demonstrable operational management capability. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
