Purpose of Role
To provide leadership in managing and developing a high-quality service that meets the needs and aspirations of people with a learning disability. This role is central to delivering our Mission of ensuring every person towards positive, empowered futures.
Summary
As a Service Manager, you will act as a senior leader for a dedicated team, ensuring they feel well-supported, motivated, and aligned with Positive Futures’ values. This includes targeted input into operational, management, and development initiatives across our services.
Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Visionary Role
- Provide leadership and act as a role model to all staff, ensuring the strategic aims of Positive Futures are fully communicated and embedded within your Service.
- Spearhead two-way communication by regular engagement:
- Attending key management team and service meetings.
- Encouraging staff participation in the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC).
- Deputise professionally for the Service Manager in their absence, assuming full operational responsibility for day-to-day management.

People Management
- Oversee staff recruitment, performance management, development, and retention in line with Positive Futures’ HR policies and the NISCC Code of Practice.
- Preserve a supportive, collaborative, and inclusive environment that empowers staff to deliver excellent service.

Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to all relevant legislation, regulations, and government policies including:
- RQIA (Regional Quality Improvement Authority) requirements.
- Supporting People standards (NCSP).
- Health and Safety Standards.

Administrative Excellence
- Maintain and enhance clear communication, information, and technology systems for seamless operation.
- Regularly review and improve these systems to optimise efficiency.

- Availability & Flexibility
- Participate in the Service “on-call” rota, including shifts or sleepovers as required to ensure cover for service users.
- Co-ordinate rotations with staff of a Support Planner to guarantee adequate backup across shifts.

Key Requirements
Essential Criteria
Applicants must meet the following:
- Minimum qualifications:
- Level 3 Health & Social Care qualification, or
- Whichever of the two options below:
- 2 years’ experience in Health and Social Care.
- 4 years’ experience in Health and Social Care (with no formal qualifications).
- Management experience:
- A minimum 2 years as a supervisor or in management roles.
- Registration:
- Current registration with NISCC, or readiness to register provisionally or permanently.
- Mobility:
- A valid UK driving licence, essential to meet operational Waltham requirements.
Desired Skills
While not mandatory, preference is given to:
- Additional experience in team leadership, service delivery, or organisation.
- Demonstrated ability in plan appraisals, performance management.
- Familiarity with support planning methodologies.
