As a Deputy Shift Supervisor in our RAF Brize Norton team, you’ll help keep essential transport operations running smoothly so colleagues can deliver critical services safely and on time. Your work has real purpose – supporting effective military operations and contributing to safer, well‑coordinated movement every day.
You’ll play a key role in creating an efficient, safe and well‑organised environment. By supporting colleagues, allocating resources and helping maintain compliance standards, you’ll make a positive impact on the communities and people our work touches.
You’ll Be Entrusted To
What you’ll do as a Deputy Shift Supervisor
- Take on supervisory duties for MT Ops drivers when the Shift Supervisor is absent.
- Support the MT Ops Manager with the daily running and coordination of MT operations.
- Ensure all transport requests are completed in line with Joint Service Publication (JSP) 800 Vol 5.
- Allocate and supervise MT colleagues within delegated authority.
- Monitor attendance, conduct and performance as required.
- Make sure drivers have the correct documentation, equipment and task information.
- Follow procedures for reporting vehicle faults, defects and breakdowns.
- Allocate trained and qualified personnel to suitable vehicles for each request.
- Brief drivers fully to ensure tasks are completed safely and effectively.
- Support cost‑effective and safe vehicle scheduling.
- Promote a strong safety‑first culture with zero compromise.
- Ensure compliance with Operator’s Licence requirements and relevant legislation (including ISO standards, HASAW Act and COSHH).
- Use the Clarity fleet management system to support daily operations.
- Report any operational, safety, compliance or risk issues to MT leadership.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation and policies.
- Undertake driving duties when required.

Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- A full driving licence Cat D and Cat C (C+E desirable).
- A Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC).
- Colour perception that meets the required standard for an Airfield Driving Permit.
- IT literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- A thorough understanding of Joint Service Motor Transport (MT) and Dangerous Goods Regulations.
- Knowledge of load and load restraint.
- Proven supervisory and people‑leadership experience.
- The ability to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance.
Vetting And Checks
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
