Deputy Shop Manager

£12.71 per hour + annual bonus scheme

Part-time, 22.5 hours per week (3 days, with some weekend work) Location: Corsham – including warehouse and high street retail


About the Role

Looking for a role with purpose and leadership opportunities? At Dorothy House Hospice Care, every sale in our charity shops helps fund compassionate, specialist care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

As Deputy Shop Manager, you’ll work alongside the Shop Manager to support the day-to-day operations of our busy charity shop. You’ll create an inviting environment for customers, donors, and volunteers—a role that values your commitment, positivity, and willingness to grow.

We provide full training, tools, and support to help you succeed. No retail or charity experience is needed—just the passion for impactful work and a proactive mindset.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the Shop Manager in running the shop efficiently and ensuring a warm, welcoming experience for customers and donors
  • Act as a customer champion, using initiative to continuously improve the retail experience
  • Maintain high standards across the shop floor and backstage areas, while supporting volunteers to ensure every visitor has a positive experience
  • Engage, support, and motivate our volunteer team, fostering confidence and a positive working environment
  • Train and mentor volunteers on tasks such as:
    • Preparing stock for sale
    • Providing excellent customer service
    • Maintaining cleanliness and presentation standards
  • Sort, price, and present donated stock to create an attractive shopping environment
  • Deputy for the Shop Manager when required, ensuring smooth and safe operation of the shop
  • Assist with recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers

Physical Requirements & Qualities

This role is physically demanding, requiring:

  • Lifting and moving stock
  • Extended periods on your feet

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong maths and English skills

Desirable but Not Required:

  • Previous experience in retail or charity shops
  • Leadership or supervisory experience
  • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle
