Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse – Specialty Neonatal Nurse (SCBU, St Richards Hospital, Chichester)
We are seeking an experienced, qualified neonatal nurse to join our team at our Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in St Richards, Chichester, in the role of Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.
About the Role
Our Level 1 unit consists of 12 cots, including:
- 2 high-dependency cots
- 10 special-care cots
We service babies born at 32 weeks gestation or above. Our aim is to support families through Family Integrated Care, ensuring they gain the confidence to care for their babies at home before discharge, with ongoing community neonatal outreach support.
Key Responsibilities
Leading and supporting the ward as Deputy Sister when the Ward Sister is absent:
- Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical leadership to junior staff
- Maintain optimal standards of neonatal care for babies and their families
- Support the Ward Sister in:
- Recruitment and selection processes
- Developing personnel development plans for staff
- Ensuring compliance with trust policies and procedures
- Meeting organizational objectives
- Provide expert guidance on clinical best practices
- Act as a role model for professional conduct and ethical care delivery

Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified neonatal nurse with a specialty qualification and proven leadership experience
- Motivated, enthusiastic, and collaborative team player
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Experience mentoring and supervising junior/nursing staff
- Understanding of trust policies, procedures, and clinical governance
- Alignment with our ethos of patient-centred care and family integration
Desirable
- Experience with ** Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) / high-dependency units**
- Knowledge of Family Integrated Care models
- Commitment to professional development ( leadership courses, academic licences)
