We are seeking to recruit a highly experienced and motivated critical care practitioner, who as a shift leader can ensure the safe and effective management of the Critical Care area.
As an independent practitioner, you must be capable of providing highly skilled nursing care to a wide range of critically ill patients, as well as providing support, guidance, and clinical support to junior staff on duty. As a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, in conjunction with the band 7 Sister, you will be required to participate in the management of a team of nursing staff, identifying education and professional development requirements, and managing performance and sickness within defined parameters.
Requirements
- 1st level registration along with a Degree in a Health related topic, or studying towards.
- A teaching certificate or studying towards.
- A Critical Care qualification or equivalent experience.
- Evidence of continual professional development.
- Minimum of 3 years Critical Care nursing.
- Experience of contributing to change in nursing practice.
- Good organisational skills.
- Effective team working.
- Evidence of clinical and managerial leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Provide assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
- Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
- Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient.
- Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.
- Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures.

Education and Training
- Participate as a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse in the overall management of the department, by taking responsibility for specific projects within defined boundaries.
- Assist in promoting a positive working and learning environment to aid the personal and professional development of self and other staff.
- Join an established and dynamic multi-disciplinary team where clinical and nursing teams work well together.
