Staff Nurse – Stroke Services
Are you a dynamic and focused staff nurse with a passion for acute stroke care, ready to take the next step in your career progression? We would love for you to join our developing multidisciplinary team as we expand our stroke services.
About the Role
Our stroke services are growing—we are transitioning to a 30-bedded unit, including two Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) bays from September 2026. We are seeking experienced Nurses to join us on this exciting journey, bringing new opportunities to the stroke unit.
The current 24-bedded Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) provides specialist care for patients requiring:
- Close monitoring and observation
- Acute care post-thrombolysis
- Post-repatriation from mechanical thrombectomy
- Rehabilitation needs

Key Responsibilities
As part of the Stroke Outreach Team, under the leadership of the Matron and ACP team, your role will include:
- Working in the Emergency Department (ED):
- Assessing acute stroke patients
- Supporting delivery of thrombolysis
- Conducting water swallow assessments
- Coordinating transfers for mechanical thrombectomy

Managing the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) bay:
- Leading in the nursing care of hyperacute stroke patients

Supporting ward operations:
- Working alongside/under the ward leader in coordination and management of the stroke ward
- Deputising for the ward leader as required

Ensuring quality care and data compliance:
- Meeting SSNAP (Stroke Services National Audit Programme) standards
- Assisting the SSNAP data administrator with completing missing information
- Providing advice and support across the wider hospital regarding nursing care of stroke patients
