Deputy Team Manager

Deputy Team Manager (Permanent)

Shift Pattern: 3on 3off, 3on 5off

Hours of Work: 06:00–18:06 (12-hour shifts)

Weekly Hours: 36.5 hours Salary: £33,550.74 (per annum)


Purpose of the Role

Act as a Competent Advanced Operator, striving to lead a multidisciplinary operations team to deliver all aspects of output to standard metrics (S.Q.D.C.P.M.) in an engaging and collaborative manner. Uphold capability and ensure consistent delivery.


Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures are followed.
  • Foster a behavioural safety culture, recognising positive and negative behaviour.
  • Ensure the team operates in a safe, hygienic manner while adhering to company guidelines.
  • Escalate accidents and incidents appropriately and understanding fire evacuation protocols.

Performance & Quality

  • Review and sign off shift performance (S.Q.D.C.P.M.) metrics.
  • Oversee admin tasks supporting the production team.
  • Drive a food safety/quality culture through continuous improvement, maintaining:
    • Safety
    • Authenticity
    • Legality
    • Product quality on-site
  • Monitor daily production plans, reporting actual output vs. planned deliveries.
  • Manage line performance output to achieve target rates without rework/rejected product.
  • Take a clear leadership role during changeovers, ensuring proper handover processes for smooth operations.
  • Understand/monitor:
    • OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
    • Waste/productivity targets
    • DWOR (Daily Work Order Reports)
    • Plant labour utilisation
    • BobJ (productivity metric)
    • SAP stock sheets

People Management

  • Handle all personnel matters, including:
    • Absence management
    • Welcome-back conversations after absences
    • Managing misconduct and grievances
    • Collaborating with HR team for talent identification/development
  • Conduct resource planning to ensure skill alignment with production demands, including scheduling:
    • Holidays
    • Overtime, if required
  • Liaise with Labour Controllers to optimise resource deployment.

Requirements & Qualities

  • Certified as an Advanced Operative
  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic maths and English literacy proficiency
  • Experience completing a Step Into Leadership course (or ability to do so)
  • Training in accident/incident reporting procedures
