About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join Dulas ward as a deputy ward manager.

Dulas ward is a 29-bedded mixed ward specialising in ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat). The ward also supports medical outliers across Cardiology, Respiratory, and Endocrinology.

The Deputy Ward Manager will play a critical role in ensuring safe and effective ward operations. This position combines hands-on patient care with the responsibility of supporting the ward manager in areas including:

  • Maintaining high clinical standards
  • Managing rosters and staffing schedules
  • Overseeing audits and compliance
  • Promoting mandatory training and professional development
  • Handling administrative and operational duties

Key Responsibilities

  • Stay informed about new nursing care initiatives and interventions.
  • Lead mandatory training and additional courses relevant to the ward.
  • Engage in staff meetings and provide personal development support through mentoring.

Person Specification: Qualifications & Criteria

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered RGN with experience at Band 5 level
  • Proven experience in a surgical setting

Desirable Criteria

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Experience in a leadership or change management module
  • Degree qualification (or equivalent)—in progress or attained

Knowledge and Experience (Essential vs Desirable)

Essential Requirements

  • Strong clinical foundation in acute care settings
  • Clear understanding of governance frameworks & healthcare policies

Desirable Skills

  • Additional extended nursing skills (e.g., phlebotomy/cannulation)
  • Track record of audit participation
  • Previous experience in staff management, including handling off-duty and absence matters
