Deputy Ward Manager – Dulas Ward (Mixed Ward – 29 Beds – ENT Speciality)

About the Role
An opportunity exists to join Dulas ward as a Deputy Ward Manager. This mixed ward features 29 beds, with a primary focus on ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) care, while also accommodating medical outliers from Cardiology, Respiratory, and Endocrinology wards.
The Deputy Ward Manager will support the Ward Manager in ensuring:
- Safe and effective ward operation
- High clinical governance and patient safety standards
- Roster and staff management
- Audit activities
- Staff training, professional development, and leadership initiatives
- Hands-on patient care
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
The role involves driving mandatory training and continuous professional development to comply with NHS standards. Deputy Ward Managers will:
- Keep up with new nursing care initiatives, protocols, and best practices within the ward.
- Uphold staff meetings and personal development reviews to support skill advancement and performance.
- Actively promote training courses relevant to ENT and multidisciplinary referral specialties.

Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualified at or above Band 5 level.
- Proven experience in surgical nursing.
Beneficial Experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Leadership or change management qualifications or training modules completed.
- Pursuing or completed a higher education degree (e.g., honours degree).
Clinical & Governance Competencies
Essential
- Extensive clinical knowledge of acute care specialities.
- Clear understanding of governance practices within health boards.
Desirable
- Extended clinical skills, including phlebotomy and cannulation.
- Demonstrated skills in conducting ward audits and leading improvements.
- Experience in staff management, including off-duty, sickness, and absence coverage.
