Location: Wakefield Contract: Full-time, permanent Start Date: September
About the Role
A highly motivated and *enthusiastic Design and Technology Teacher is required for a permanent, full-time position starting in September. This third-person role involves delivering high-quality, engaging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
The successful educator will be responsible for:
- Inspiring pupils across multiple disciplines, with a focus on Product Design (PD), Resistant Materials (RM), and Textiles
- Joining a collaborative and innovative department that prioritises student outcomes, helping develop practical resilience and academic qualifications to support success in later life.

Requirements
Qualification & Legal
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (or equivalent: QTLS, or a recognised UK teaching qualification)
- Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (will arrange if required)
- Eligibility to work legally in the UK for full-time employment

- Strong subject expertise in:

- Resistant Materials
- Textiles

✹ Classroom management – adept at balancing practical workshop and theory-based learning environments ✹ Health & safety proficiency – ability to demonstrate safe handling of tools, machinery, and materials (woods, plastics, metals, fabrics) ✹ Positive communication – skill in articulating technical concepts clearly to diverse learners ✹ Organisational acuity – managing lesson planning, marking, and material prep effectively while maintaining timelines ✹ Emotional intelligence & empathy – capacity to support an inclusive learning community ✹ Analytical minds – interpreting student data to inform targeted interventions

Key Responsibilities
Delivery & Engagement
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, differentiated DT lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Maintain a safe, professional workshop environment—adhering rigorously to health and safety protocols
- Assess and track student progress, providing accurate reports to support academic attainments
Pupil Support & Behaviour
- Uphold behavioural policies to maintain a positive learning climate marked by kindness, mutual respect, and high expectations
- Guide enrichment activities—led or assisted with skills-based extracurricular projects
School Collaboration
- Engage in daily Personal Development sessions for professional growth
- Collaborate with the department to share resources, innovative practices, and best teaching strategies
- Maintain strong communication with families, supporting student well-being through proactive engagement
