Design Assurance Engineer – Protection & Control (Contract)
Are you a P&C specialist with deep expertise in the UK electricity transmission sector?
We are partnering with a leading energy organization to secure a contract Design Assurance Engineer – Protection & Control (P&C). This is a brilliant opportunity to play a vital role during the detailed design phase of a major, nationally significant electricity transmission programme in Scotland.
Location: Glasgow or Inverness (Hybrid – 3–4 days in the office)

The Role:
As a core member of the client’s engineering team, you will act as the technical gatekeeper for all P&C designs submitted by external partners and contractors. You will be responsible for reviewing, verifying, and assuring complex protection philosophies and control schemes—ensuring they are robust, safe, buildable, and fully compliant with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Assurance: Review and assure complex Protection & Control (P&C) detailed designs, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Scheme Verification: Assess protection philosophies, control schemes, wiring diagrams, and schematics for technical integrity.
- Compliance & Quality: Ensure all engineering deliverables meet rigorous transmission industry standards, specifications, and regulatory frameworks.
- Buildability & Operations: Evaluate the practical, on-site buildability and operational suitability of proposed P&C solutions.
- Collaborative Challenge: Constructively challenge design assumptions with external consultants and contractors to identify and mitigate technical risks.
- Query Management: Resolve complex technical queries from multidisciplinary project teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For:
- Education: Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Sector Experience: Proven track record working within the UK electricity transmission sector.
- Technical Expertise: Strong, specialized knowledge of Protection & Control (P&C) systems.
- Design Savvy: Solid experience reviewing, interpreting, and assuring protection schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Stakeholder Skills: Outstanding communication and influencing skills, with the ability to maintain collaborative relationships while constructively challenging designs.

Desirable (But Not Essential):
- Professional registration (Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it).
- Active membership with the IET, ICE, or a similar professional body.
- Prior experience working directly on major UK transmission operator standards.
