Design Assurance Engineer – HV Plant (Contract) Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in the UK electricity transmission sector?
We are currently partnering with a major player in the energy sector to secure a Design Assurance Engineer – HV Plant on a contract basis. This is a brilliant opportunity to play a pivotal role in the detailed design phase of a nationally significant electricity transmission programme, helping to shape the future of the UK's green energy grid.
Location: Glasgow or Inverness (Hybrid – 3–4 days in the office)

The Role:
Working closely with the client's core engineering team, you will be the technical anchor during the detailed design phase. Your mission is to review, challenge, and assure HV Plant designs submitted by external designers and contractors—ensuring everything is technically compliant, safe, buildable, and aligned with rigorous industry specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Assurance: Review and assure detailed HV Plant engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs comply with transmission industry standards, project-specific regulations, and engineering best practices.
- Buildability Assessments: Evaluate the practicality and safety of proposed designs, working closely with on-site construction teams to ensure smooth delivery.
- Collaborative Challenge: Constructively challenge design assumptions with consultants, project engineers, and contractors to identify and mitigate engineering risks.
- Technical Query Lead: Act as the go-to point of contact for resolving complex technical queries from internal and external stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For:
- Education: Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Sector Experience: Proven track record working within the UK electricity transmission landscape.
- Technical Expertise: Deep technical knowledge of High Voltage (HV) Plant systems.
- Design Savvy: Strong experience reviewing, interpreting, and assuring complex engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Stakeholder Skills: Outstanding communication skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, and constructively challenge multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable (But Not Essential):
- Professional registration (Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it).
- Active membership with the IET, ICE, or a similar professional institution.
- Previous experience working directly on major UK transmission operator standards.
