About The Role
At Connect Plus Services, we manage and maintain the strategic infrastructure of the M25 motorway, one of the busiest and most complex road networks in Europe. Working in partnership with National Highways, our teams are responsible for ensuring the network operates safely, efficiently and reliably for millions of users every day.
We are looking for a Senior Structures Engineer / Design Coordinator to join our Engineering Design Team, supporting the management and improvement of critical structures across the M25 network. This role will primarily focus on the Dartford Crossing, including the two Dartford tunnels and the QEII Bridge, some of the most strategically important assets on the UK road network.
This is a highly varied role combining design coordination, engineering assurance and site engagement. You will coordinate design and construction activities across multiple schemes, working closely with project teams, external consultants and framework contractors to deliver safe, practical and cost-effective engineering solutions within a live operational highway environment.
Operating within the complex environment of the Dartford assets, you will help challenge and develop design proposals, review construction methodologies and ensure that engineering solutions improve safety, performance and long-term asset resilience.
What you'll be doing
In this role you will coordinate and manage design activities across a range of structures and mechanical and electrical improvement schemes, ensuring design outputs are aligned with programme requirements and operational constraints across the Dartford assets.
You will review and challenge design proposals from framework contractors and external consultants, ensuring they meet contractual requirements, relevant specifications and CPS engineering standards before submission to National Highways through the formal review process. The role will also involve managing external design consultants to ensure delivery of agreed scope, programme and budget outcomes.
Working closely with project and construction teams, you will act as the key engineering interface between site operations and the wider design and engineering teams. This will include attending regular site visits, supporting construction activities, reviewing control plans, ensuring specification compliance and resolving technical queries that arise during delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who we're looking for
We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong background in highways structures, infrastructure or complex civil engineering environments. You will be comfortable coordinating design activities while maintaining close engagement with site operations, ensuring engineering solutions are both practical and safe to deliver within a live operational network.
You will have strong technical and analytical skills, with the confidence to review and challenge design proposals, manage consultants and coordinate engineering outputs across multiple stakeholders. The role requires excellent communication and organisational abilities, as you will work closely with project managers, asset teams, construction teams and external partners including National Highways.
A solid understanding of design assurance processes, construction methodologies and safety requirements within infrastructure environments will be important. Knowledge of CDM regulations and health and safety legislation is essential, along with the ability to contribute to safety by design principles and the delivery of Zero Harm across the network.
You should hold a relevant engineering qualification such as BEng, MEng, HNC or HND in a civil, structural or related discipline. Membership of a relevant professional institution such as ICE, IET or IMechE would be advantageous.
