We're recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist engineering contractor with an outstanding reputation for delivering complex geotechnical, foundation, and underground engineering solutions across major infrastructure, energy, transport, and construction projects.

The Opportunity
As a Design Engineer, you'll become an integral part of an experienced engineering team responsible for producing safe, practical, and commercially effective temporary and permanent works designs for complex geotechnical and foundation projects.
- Working closely with operational teams, estimating, project management, and clients, you'll develop innovative engineering solutions from tender stage through to construction, ensuring designs are technically robust, buildable, and cost-effective.
- You'll have the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant infrastructure projects while developing your technical capability within a collaborative and highly respected engineering environment.

- Large-scale civil engineering schemes
- Highways and transportation infrastructure

- Energy and nuclear developments
- Marine and waterfront engineering
- Commercial developments
- Deep foundations
- Retaining structures

- Specialist geotechnical solutions

Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design
- Produce innovative geotechnical and structural engineering designs
- Develop temporary and permanent works solutions
- Prepare detailed engineering calculations
- Produce high-quality technical drawings and design documentation
- Ensure all designs comply with current British Standards and Eurocodes
- Review engineering risks and develop practical mitigation measures
Project Support
- Provide technical support throughout project delivery
- Assist operational teams during construction
- Attend design meetings with clients and project stakeholders
- Resolve engineering challenges during project execution
- Provide design modifications where required
Technical Excellence
- Carry out engineering analysis and design calculations
- Develop practical construction methodologies
- Review third-party information and technical data
- Ensure designs are safe, efficient, and commercially viable
- Contribute towards continuous improvement initiatives
Collaboration
- Working closely with:
- Project Engineers
- Site Teams
- Commercial Teams
- Estimators
- Project Managers
- Clients
- External Consultants
- Supply Chain Partners
Innovation
- Contribute towards innovative engineering solutions
- Support value engineering initiatives
- Explore new technologies and construction techniques
- Assist with research and development activities where appropriate
About You
We're interested in speaking with Design Engineers who have experience within one or more of the following:
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Foundation Engineering
- Temporary Works
- Ground Engineering
- Infrastructure
- Construction Engineering
You'll ideally have:
- Degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Previous design experience within construction or civil engineering
- Knowledge of geotechnical principles and structural behaviour
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience producing engineering calculations
- Understanding of relevant design standards and Eurocodes
- CAD experience (AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D desirable)
- Strong communication and technical report writing skills
