Design Engineer Position
We are now recruiting for a Design Engineer to join our Engineering department.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team in the specification and development of Allied Vehicles’ current range of Minibus, Taxi and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle conversions (WAV’s).
- This will include design, research & development, prototyping, creation of BoM’s and the updating of necessary documentation, including project plans.
Working Hours
- You will work Monday to Thursday, with flexible start and finishing times between 7am and 6pm, totalling 37.5 hours per week.
- The salary is up to £35k per annum dependant on experience.

Main Duties Of The Role
- Assist with the research and development of innovative solutions for the companies planned new products to enhance their current product range.
- Work on accessories through to complete new vehicle product design.
- Manage projects to meet specification, cost and timeline requirements.
- Provide technical support for products and production.
- Design for manufacturing for both the UK and internationally.
- Incorporate lean manufacturing techniques within each design.
- Consider potential warranty implications of any new designs.
- Keep abreast of all vehicle manufacturers proposed new designs for the future.
- Be customer facing and work with the sales team to advise and support multi vehicle orders where there are engineering requirements required to secure the order.
- Work with the Production Engineering team to ensure the above requirements are implemented into the Production line in an efficient manner.

Requirements
- Previous experience of working in an automotive/manufacturing environment in a similar role.
- Proven track record of undertaking designs from concept through to production ready models.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Automotive, Aeronautical, Materials technology or Product Design).
- Prior experience with sheet metal fabricating.
- Proficient in the use of 3D CAD packages.
Previous experience of working in a WAV/Bus/Coachbuilding role would be advantageous but is not essential.
