Design Engineer

Job Role: Design Engineer

Location: Bristol

Career Level: Senior Analyst / Specialist

Role Purpose:

The role is responsible for delivering aerospace design engineering support within a 3DEXPERIENCE / CATIA environment. The individual will create, assess and update engineering design data, support stress and structural analysis activities, and ensure design outputs are controlled, compliant and suitable for manufacturing and production use.

In this role you will:

  • Create, modify and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings and engineering design definitions using CATIA within a 3DEXPERIENCE / Dassault environment.
  • Support design and stress analysis activities for aerospace structures, components or assemblies, ensuring solutions are technically robust, manufacturable and compliant with customer requirements.
  • Work within a PLM-controlled engineering environment to manage design data, revisions, configuration, approvals and release status.
  • Assess engineering change impacts across design, manufacturing, assembly and in-service considerations, supporting practical and compliant design solutions.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production and Stress teams to resolve design queries, non-conformities, concessions and production issues.
  • Support design reviews, technical investigations and problem-solving activities by preparing clear engineering evidence, analysis inputs and design documentation.

We are looking for experience across a selection of the following skills:

  • Experience in aerospace design engineering, ideally within aircraft structures, aerostructures, mechanical systems or complex manufactured assemblies.
  • Strong hands-on capability in CATIA, preferably within the 3DEXPERIENCE / Dassault environment.
  • Ability to produce and interpret 3D models, 2D drawings, engineering specifications, tolerances and design documentation.
  • Understanding of structural design principles, stress analysis inputs, load paths, materials, fasteners and aerospace manufacturing constraints.
  • Experience working in a PLM environment, including configuration control, design release, revision management and engineering change processes.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across Design, Stress, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and Production teams.

Set yourself apart if you can demonstrate some of the areas below:

  • Experience working with wing structures, metallic or composite aerostructures, aircraft components or major aerospace assemblies.
  • Familiarity with aerospace engineering standards, airworthiness requirements, configuration management and design approval processes.
  • Experience supporting concessions, non-conformities, design queries, production permits or manufacturing deviation assessments.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly, including tolerance management, tooling constraints, build sequence and shop-floor feedback loops.
  • Exposure to stress analysis tools or methods, such as hand calculations, finite element analysis inputs, static strength checks or fatigue/damage tolerance considerations.
  • Previous experience working in a large aerospace OEM, Tier 1 supplier or highly regulated engineering environment.
