Job Purpose
My client work within the Offshore Wind Industry and have a reputation for delivering technical solutions to a wide range of subsea asset protection applications. Working for the business, the Design Engineer will be joining our team to play an important role in the product development of cable protection systems for the Offshore Wind and Oil & Gas Sectors.
Working in the Engineering team, the Design Engineer will be required, as part of this team to carry out a wide range of engineering design activities, taking products from concept through to sales and ultimately project delivery. The Design Engineer will be involved in optimising designs, through fundamental design, mechanical and thermal simulation of components and systems, prototyping and physical testing and on-site and subcontract manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Use of Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and sketching to provide conceptual and detailed designs.
- Analysis of mechanical systems using a range of methods from hand calculations, spreadsheets, design codes through to non-linear FEA with ANSYS.
- Working closely with colleagues across the business, take ownership of design development, manufacturing, testing and take appropriate corrective actions where required.
- Efficient and rapid development of new product technologies, following a formal TRL process applied to new products, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Evaluating the performance of designs using FMEA and other techniques. Leading design reviews to ensure designs meet the required specification and industry standards.
- Technical document writing to support the Development, Sales, Project, and Manufacturing phases.
- Creation and checking of calculations, manufacturing drawings and general arrangements to support the products through their life cycle.
- Support project delivery and client interfaces with efficient delivery of engineering deliverables.
- Partake in client meetings, presenting technical aspects of the project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with and actively promote the company’s procedures and policies.
- Undertake any other duties, as required to support the company’s goals within the scope of the role.

- Proven experience in a design engineering role - Mandatory
- Experience in product development, design and structural analysis - Mandatory
- Good knowledge of industry and regulatory codes in offshore industry - Desirable
- A good understanding of mechanical engineering principles (statics, thermal, fatigue etc) - Mandatory
- Experience in selecting and designing with polymers and metals - Mandatory
- Experience of 3D CAD Modelling and 2D drawing production to high standards - Mandatory
- Experience of working in a manufacturing environment - Desirable
- Subsea, Offshore Wind, Oil& Gas Industry experience - Desirable
Skills and Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline - Mandatory
- Experienced user of Autodesk Inventor or similar parametric modeller - Mandatory
- Experienced user of Mathcad and/or Excel for engineering calculations - Desirable
- Experience of ANSYS (or other similar Finite Element Analysis packages) - Desirable
- Experience in Orca flex software. - Desirable
