Role Overview
Working in collaboration with our clients and partners, we deliver high-quality aviation and building services engineering solutions across complex infrastructure environments.
The Building Services Design Engineer will support the development and delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (Building Services) designs across aviation projects. Reporting to the Design Manager, the role will contribute to the production of compliant, coordinated, and buildable design solutions, ensuring alignment with client requirements, operational constraints, and aviation standards.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Support site visits, surveys and technical assessments alongside the Design Manager and wider design team.
- Assist in developing building services technical specifications and scopes of work following site inspections and client engagement.
- Liaise closely with subcontractor design teams to refine, coordinate and develop design solutions.
- Review subcontractor specifications, calculations and design information for completeness, accuracy and quality.
- Support tendering and project delivery teams in the preparation of technical documentation and design submissions.
- Ensure company design procedures and governance requirements are followed across all office and site-based activities.
- Assist in the preparation, management and maintenance of design documentation in accordance with the Business Management System (BMS).
- Support compliance with quality assurance processes, governance frameworks and company standards.
- Maintain design governance in line with Health & Safety legislation, including CDM Regulations and relevant industry standards.
- Interpret and assess client requirements through technical specifications, design information and stakeholder engagement.
- Develop coordinated building services designs including:
- Electrical systems (power distribution, lighting and small power)
- Mechanical systems (HVAC and ventilation)
- Public Health systems (water services and drainage)
- Produce design deliverables including drawings, layouts, schematics, calculations, specifications and equipment schedules.
- Work collaboratively with the Design Manager and project teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, value engineered and fully compliant.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including architectural, structural and specialist system designers to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Review subcontractor design submissions, ensuring compliance with project requirements, legislation and cost-effective delivery.
- Promote innovation and support the use of digital engineering tools, including BIM, to enhance design coordination and efficiency.
- Provide technical support during subcontractor procurement processes and supplier engagement activities.
- Assist in the development and management of design programmes, design management plans and quality deliverables.
- Review and contribute to the approval process for design deliverables, ensuring technical accuracy and programme compliance.
- Identify and communicate potential Compensation Events (CEs) and Early Warnings (EWs) arising from design development activities.
- Ensure design changes are managed through formal Change Control procedures and that scope creep is effectively controlled.
- Support the handover of design information to Construction and Commissioning teams.
- Provide technical support during installation, construction, testing and commissioning phases as required.

About You:

- An effective communicator who can engage confidently with airport operators, technical stakeholders, consultants, and delivery teams, while demonstrating a strong commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and diversity.

- A strong commitment to customer service and client satisfaction, ensuring that design solutions meet operational, safety, and regulatory requirements within live aviation environments.
- Experience working in fast-paced, multi-site infrastructure environments, ideally within airports, transport hubs, or complex building services projects, where coordination between design, operations, and construction teams is critical.
