We Are Sparta
Sparta is the next-generation commodity trading platform. We give trading desks the clarity, control, and collaboration they need to move faster and trade smarter.
In February 2025, we secured $42 million in Series B funding. Now we’re scaling up across the business, and it’s an exciting time to join.
Our people are the driving force behind everything we do. At Sparta, you’ll be trusted to take ownership, backed by a team who wants you to succeed. You’ll be challenged, supported, and given room to grow. Because building something this ambitious takes everyone at their best. At Sparta, your work has reach. From improving our platform, to powering smarter decisions for our customers, to changing how commodity trading is done around the world.
And because we’re growing fast, you won’t just build your career. You’ll accelerate it, with a level of ownership and impact you simply don’t get at bigger, more bureaucratic companies.
Design Engineer
This role is for someone who doesn’t fit neatly into a box and stopped trying to a while ago. A creative who builds, someone who sees the boundaries between design and engineering shifting and finds that exciting rather than unsettling.
You will work across the full arc of product development, from early discovery and problem framing through to production-quality UI. You will question what gets built, get close to the customer, and design in real context with real data. The tools and workflows available to us have changed what’s possible. We want someone who already thinks that way.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you’ll do
Work across the full product lifecycle, from early discovery through to shipping UI in React, TypeScript and CSS, without a handoff. Reach for code the moment an idea is worth exploring. Prototyping in working software is how we drive consensus, validate early and reduce the cost of being wrong. Build and maintain the design system that the wider team builds on, reducing duplication and raising consistency across the product. Translate genuinely complex domains into clear information architectures and interaction models. Our data is not simple. That’s part of what makes the problem interesting. Help shape how our customers work with and use AI, contributing to one of the most interesting design problems in the market right now. Bring AI-assisted workflows into standard practice and keep exploring. We want someone who is actively pushing what’s possible, not treating it as a background activity. Work fluidly across design, engineering and product. Role boundaries are becoming permeable, and we understand the future will make us rethink traditional responsibilities.

What we’re looking for
Proficiency in React, TypeScript and CSS, with a portfolio that spans problem framing to shipped code in complex, data-rich environments. Strong systems thinking, with the ability to model complex domains, information architectures and interactions clearly. A genuine seat at the table on what gets built. You will help shape product direction, not just respond to it. An active and evolving practice with AI tools, someone who is already using them toraise the bar on what they ship, not just experimenting. A solid understanding of web standards and accessibility, and why they matter in a product people depend on daily. A genuine instinct toward the user. You care whether what you build works for the person using it, not just whether it looks as it should. An eye for quality that AI can't replicate. You know what good looks like, and you hold that standard across everything you touch.
