Mechanical Design Engineer
Woolpit, Suffolk
£50k-£55k (Dependant on experience)
Most Design Engineer jobs promise "exciting projects" and "career progression."
This isn't one of them.
Instead, here's what actually matters.
You'll be joining a well-established engineering business that's replacing a long-standing Design Engineer. This isn't a growth role or a business constantly recruiting because people leave. It's a genuine opportunity to become the go-to Design Engineer in a company that values good engineering and looks after its people.
The Work
The work is genuinely varied.
- Designing bespoke process pipework systems, access platforms, walkways, and structural steelwork for projects across a variety of industries.
- Involved from initial concept through to manufacture and installation.
- Carrying out site surveys.
- Producing manufacturing drawings.
- Working closely with fabrication throughout the project lifecycle.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
This isn't a role where you'll spend your week making minor drawing revisions.
Every project is different, giving you the opportunity to solve real engineering problems and see your designs brought to life.
We're Looking For:
- SolidWorks experience, ideally including Routing and Piping
- Experience designing process pipework or similar mechanical systems
- A background in fabricated steelwork, platforms, walkways, or bespoke mechanical equipment
- Confidence carrying out site surveys and translating requirements into practical engineering solutions
Why Join?
The engineering is interesting, but it's the business that really stands out.
- You'll be working directly with the Managing Director, who believes in investing in both the business and the people within it.
- Decisions are made quickly, ideas are listened to, and good engineers are trusted to do what they do best.
- Rather than operating in layers of management and endless meetings, you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on projects and the business itself.
