About the role:
We’re looking for a Design Engineer to join the JCB Mid-Range Engineering team at our World Headquarters in Rocester. As part of the team responsible for the continued development of the world's number one Backhoe Loader, you'll play a key role in delivering innovative engineering solutions across a diverse product range. This position offers the unique opportunity to influence engineering change on one of JCB's highest-volume products, while also contributing to the development of some of the most advanced machines within the business.
Working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, you'll be challenged to think creatively, solve complex engineering problems, and develop robust, practical solutions that deliver real value to our customers. You'll work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across the business and have the opportunity to see your designs progress from concept through to production.
What does this role involve day to day?
As a Design Engineer, you will:
- Lead and deliver small but critical engineering projects, ensuring objectives, timescales and quality standards are achieved.
- Design components and systems with a focus on manufacturability, assembly, serviceability and cost-effectiveness.
- Create and maintain formal engineering documentation, including DFMEA and DVPSOR.
- Produce and develop 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using Siemens NX (Unigraphics) and associated PLM systems.
- Manage engineering changes throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring robust change control processes are followed.
- Work closely with colleagues across Engineering, Operations, Quality, Service, and Sales & Marketing to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Collaborate with JCB's global engineering teams, including maintaining strong working relationships with our design team in India.
- Support compliance activities by ensuring designs meet relevant legislation, standards and customer requirements.
- Engage with external suppliers and partners to support the successful delivery of projects and product improvements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the future development of JCB products.

This will be suited to you if…
- You’re educated to HNC, HND or Degree level in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- You have experience using Siemens NX (Unigraphics) and PLM systems, with knowledge of engineering change management processes.
- You have an understanding of BOM structures and how they interact with manufacturing and production systems.
- You have a sound understanding of engineering principles and are confident applying a logical approach to problem-solving.
- You’re familiar with engineering legislation, standards and compliance requirements.
- Experience within the off-highway, construction equipment, agricultural, automotive or heavy machinery sectors would be advantageous.
- You take ownership of your work and are motivated to drive projects through to completion.
- You can effectively manage competing priorities and consistently deliver to deadlines.
- You’re a proactive self-starter who enjoys working both independently and as part of a wider team.
- You have strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- You’re passionate about innovation and enjoy finding new ways to improve products and processes.
- You bring energy, enthusiasm, flexibility and a strong sense of urgency to everything you do.
