Design Engineer

Design Engineer – Precision Engineering (Aerospace) Role

Exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer to join a growing aerospace manufacturer. You'll be responsible for designing precision-engineered components, supporting new product development, and delivering innovative solutions that meet demanding aerospace quality and performance standards.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop bespoke connector and interconnect solutions tailored to specific customer requirements and applications
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings in line with BS8888 and company standards
  • Support the full design lifecycle from concept through to production, including project closure and review using internal systems
  • Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to ensure robust and efficient designs aligned with company procedures, approvals, and drafting standards
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant international, national, and customer-specific standards and specifications
  • Liaise closely with manufacturing teams and production cells to support product implementation, including assembly, testing, and commissioning
  • Provide technical support to sales, purchasing, and operations teams in interactions with customers and suppliers (occasional travel may be required)
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities and participate in design reviews to enhance product performance and reliability
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including drawings, bills of materials, and project records

Person Specification

Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline), or equivalent experience via a time-served apprenticeship in a relevant field, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience
  • Strong familiarity with engineering materials and manufacturing processes, particularly CNC machining
  • Proficiency in creating and interpreting detailed engineering drawings in line with BS8888 and geometric tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience interpreting and applying technical specifications
  • Competence in problem-solving with a focus on delivering high-quality, customer-specific solutions

  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across multiple departments
  • Experience within aerospace, defence, or high-reliability industries
  • Knowledge of connectors, interconnect systems, or electro-mechanical products
