Design Engineer
Design Engineer – Trims, Packaging & Additive Manufacturing
Location: Manchester, UK (5 Days / Week Onsite) Duration: 12 months fixed term employment (with possible extension)
NOTE: VISA SPONSORSHIP IS NOT PROVIDED
Role and Responsibilities
- Design prototype bridging components to validate new features as part of Model Year updates
- Design components via additive manufacturing to support Demo / Mule vehicles
- Design and modify components for Physical Mock-up builds
- Develop bespoke tools / equipment for R&D workshop activities
- Design New Additive Manufacturing components to drive business-wide adoption
- Reverse engineer components to aid fitment on new vehicle packaging
- Design jigs & fixtures for various Vehicle Product lines to undergo test procedures as part of Vehicle Gateways
- Deliver high-quality CAD design and configuration for wind tunnel testing and CFD Analysis
- Coordinate with the customer’s Aerodynamics team for:
- Wind tunnel and CFD model setup
- Geometry details and stitch surfaces to remove overlaps
- Recommend geometry improvements based on wind tunnel tests
- Build CATIA V5 models ready for:
- Full/partial-scale wind tunnel testing
- Surface and solid CFD modelling
- Suitability for aerodynamic testing, rapid prototyping (RP), or other manufacturing methods

Requirements
Skills & Experience
- Mechanical Engineer with expertise in:
- Full product development (concept to start of production)
- Design aspects of trims (exterior, interior)
- CAD (Solid / Surface modelling, DMU Analysis)
- PLM (Product Lifecycle Management optimisation)

Hands-on experience with:
- Various measurement tools for reverse engineering

Strong knowledge in:
- Sheet metal design
- Additive manufacturing technologies
- Mechanical software tools: CATIA V5 R32 with Teamcenter

Understanding of:
- Manufacturing techniques
- Tolerances, material selection, strength, stress, and failure modes
Experience Band
- 2 to 3 years of automotive experience
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a reputed institution/university
