Design Manager – Defence/Technology Sector (Arcadis Places Design Practice)

Job Overview

We are seeking a Design Manager with expertise in the Defence or Technology sectors, focused on delivering excellence at the business end of design. This role sits within the Arcadis Places Design Practice, which is expanding and seeking dynamic talent.

You will play a critical role in guiding design teams (internal and external) to align with client requirements, budgets, timelines, and resource constraints. Strong client/stakeholder engagement and close collaboration with the Arcadis Project Manager are essential.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading design workshops and project meetings, identifying risks across the lifecycle
  • Coordination between design, procurement, planning, environmental, construction, and operations teams
  • Delivering clear direction and solution-focused leadership for projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Arcadis Project Manager to fulfil client and company objectives
  • Ensure technical delivery and integration of complex, multi-disciplinary projects with excellence
  • Foster a collaborative culture that embraces challenge, innovation, and creativity
  • Apply Project Management (PM) methodologies, tools, and techniques
  • Use strong interpersonal and influencing skills for successful outcomes
  • Manage shifting priorities in an ever-evolving work environment
  • Diagnose and resolve challenges in multi-discipline engineering projects, ensuring plans are implemented effectively

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree (BA/BSc/BEng/MA/MSc/MEng or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Prior experience in the Defence or Technology sectors (strongly preferred)
  • Chartered or equivalent professional accreditation recommended
  • Background in Design Management within a client/consultancy setting
  • Proficiency in BIM (Building Information Modelling) and Autodesk software
  • Demonstrable stakeholder, integration, and communication skills
  • Experience using programme management software
  • Strong written and technical report-writing skills in English
