Design Manager
Building a sustainable tomorrow
BAM UK & Ireland's Infrastructure Segment Engineering and Design Team, working within our Scotland Region, has an opportunity for a talented and experienced Engineer. As a Design Manager, this position will report to the Regional Engineering Manager, to develop their skills in all aspects of Civil Engineering for supporting Pre-construction and Project teams throughout Scotland, particularly in respect to the Energy Renewables sector.
Your team
BAM operates a flexible working policy You will be required to work out of our area offices initially, which are located in Inverness and Kilsyth, Scotland, before going on-site for project delivery.
Making Possible
As a Design Manager, your role will include the following:
Engender collaboration at the interface between BAM Infrastructure and the designer. Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time, buildability and appropriate quality matters. Collate and promote strategic advice and knowledge associated with the designer’s processes and design management best practice. Take a personal interest in identifying, coaching and developing key staff. Provide operational, strategic, contractual and technical advice and/or service to bid preparation and project management. Promote business process for design management by contributing to / delivering training for managing design delivery and on NP20 design management procedures / guidance. Promote use of engineering expertise and advice to add value to the process of design development. Implement 3D design delivery strategy to inform and deliver the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP) requirements. Manage delivery of guidance and service support to bid and project meetings to contribute a clear view for delivering design management. Prepare, maintain and communicate design commissioning, commercial and delivery records Promote business in design and construct by personal contact with employers and stakeholders, demonstrating high levels of commitment to their requirements. Keep management informed of business area design management activity and progress achieved. Actively investigate emerging new techniques and technologies in design management and advise on suitable application within the area. Raise the profile of BAM Infrastructure in design management, attend conferences, seminars, and give presentations when needed. Perform peer review of technical proposals. Ensuring compliance with the CDM 2015 requirements, for both internal and external designers. Oversee residual design risk management framework and oversee communication of residual design risks to risk owner. Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.

What do you bring to the role?
Practical experience of engineering through time on site or involvement in other engineering activities, including use of IT and digital construction. Knowledge of 3D Design Delivery Strategy. Understanding of engineering principles, geotechnics and structures Knowledge of design delivery process gained through successful experience of design and design co-ordination role for projects or designer responsibility. Knowledge of project management process gained through successful experience of project management. Knowledge of the work process in design offices through successful experience of design delivery coordination. For internal applicants knowledge of NP20 (Design Management for design services), company procedures, guidance policy and relevant government legislation. Knowledge and experience of operating information management systems compliant with ES1192 and associated PAS1192 standards. Knowledge of design standards and procedures; preferably with some knowledge and experience of temporary works systems, processes, and design in relation to BS 5975:2019. Graduate or equivalent qualification and / or chartered engineer.
